APC waits for court decision on Rivers congresses

No Comments News

The All Progressives Congress has postponed all activities relating to the conduct of congresses in Rivers State, our correspondent has learnt.

It was learnt  that the National Working Committee had decided not to insist on the conduct of the congresses  not to incur the wrath of the judiciary.

A  Rivers State High Court  about two weeks ago ordered the party to refrain from conducting its ward, local and state congresses pending the hearing and determination of a suit marked PHC/3098/19 filed by Ibrahim Umah and 22 others.

The interim injunction also ordered the state chapter of the APC (defendant in the suit) and the claimants (Ibrahim Umah and 22 others) to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the matter before the court.

The cancelled ward, local government and state congresses had earlier been slated for September 17, 21 and 28 respectively.

A member of the NWC, who spoke  to  our correspondent on Wednesday, said the leadership of the party was not in a hurry to conduct the congresses.

He said, “We are not in a hurry to conduct the congresses. We will wait for the case in court to run its full course.”
