Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to look beyond white-collar jobs after completing their national service, urging them to embrace entrepreneurship and acquire practical skills for self-reliance.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, at the 2026 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop in Uyo. The governor said the nation’s current economic realities demand that young graduates become job creators rather than job seekers.
He encouraged corps members to take full advantage of the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to develop practical skills capable of generating sustainable income and fostering financial independence.
Eno further urged employers to provide corps members with quality mentorship, conducive working environments, and the necessary support to aid their professional development and enhance their contributions to national growth.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and overall service experience of corps members posted to Akwa Ibom State.
He further stressed that the one-year national service should be viewed as an opportunity to gain valuable experience, discover individual talents, and prepare for life after NYSC instead of waiting indefinitely for government or corporate employment.
