The Nigerian Army has reportedly arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in an unauthorised deployment at the wedding ceremony of popular Nigerian content creators, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and Jarvis.
The wedding, which took place in Lekki, Lagos State, over the weekend, attracted several celebrities, entertainers, social media influencers and content creators.
Military sources disclosed that the soldiers were arrested on Tuesday following intelligence reports that military personnel were deployed to provide security and perform other duties at the private ceremony without official authorisation.
The arrested personnel were identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, both attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH) in Obalende, Lagos.
According to a military source, preliminary investigations have commenced to determine the extent of the soldiers’ involvement and identify any other personnel who may be connected to the alleged unauthorised deployment.
The source said further details would be made available as the investigation progresses.
The arrests followed the circulation of several videos from the high-profile wedding showing men dressed in military uniforms providing security and managing access around some of the celebrity guests.
One of the videos that generated widespread attention allegedly showed a soldier acting as a bouncer for TikTok personality Ivanna while escorting her through the crowded venue.
The footage sparked criticism on social media, with many Nigerians questioning why serving military personnel were allegedly deployed to provide security at a private celebrity event.
The wedding became one of the most talked-about social events of the weekend, with videos from the ceremony dominating several social media platforms. However, the celebration was soon overshadowed by controversy after clips emerged showing uniformed personnel controlling access to parts of the venue and escorting some attendees.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that serving personnel are prohibited from carrying out unauthorised private security duties or participating in deployments that have not received official approval.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
