Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has mocked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his frequent dancing while urging voters in the state to collect money from rival political parties but cast their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 governorship election.
Okpebholo made the remarks on Thursday during an APC campaign rally held in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as “Ambo.” Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo also attended the rally.
Addressing supporters, the Edo governor repeatedly ridiculed Adeleke’s dancing, claiming it reflected poor leadership and distracted him from governance.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.
He also linked Adeleke with former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, urging Osun voters to reject the incumbent governor at the polls.
“That man is Obaseki’s friend. You know we kicked Obaseki out of Edo. So, we have to kick his friend out of this place too. A lot of people collected Obaseki’s money, but they never voted for him,” he stated.
Reacting to allegations that political opponents were distributing cash to influence voters ahead of the election, Okpebholo advised residents to accept the money but vote for the APC candidate instead.
“If they bring money, collect it from them, but don’t vote for them. They said they have money to spend, isn’t that so? Just collect the money and keep it in your pocket,” he told the crowd.
Campaigning for Bola Oyebamiji, Okpebholo described the APC candidate as the leader Osun needed, promising improved infrastructure and better governance if elected.
He also criticised the condition of roads in the state, saying, “The road I was passing, my tyre was shaking. I said, is it the dancing road or the dancing governor’s road?”
The governor ended his speech by urging supporters to back the APC at the polls.
“Osun, are we ready to make a change? Are we ready to say bye-bye to dancing?” he asked as supporters cheered.
