Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he would seek the intervention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes anything goes wrong during the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
Davido made the remarks during a livestream hosted by content creator Carter Efe, where he spoke about his interest in politics and his concerns over Nigeria’s electoral system.
The singer said he remained interested in going into politics but would only consider doing so when he is convinced that elections in Nigeria are transparent and voters are allowed to freely choose their leaders.
“Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election,” Davido said.
He argued that his confidence was based on his belief that he could win an election if Nigerians were allowed to vote freely and their votes were accurately counted.
The singer, however, expressed particular concern about the upcoming Osun governorship election, saying he was watching developments closely.
“I want to see what they are going to do in Osun. We are waiting,” he said.
Davido to call Trump
Davido then said he would contact Trump if he became dissatisfied with the conduct or outcome of the election.

“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us,’” he said.
The singer maintained that the statement was not merely a joke, insisting that he expected his concerns to reach the American president if the need arose.
“Trump will just say, ‘I think there’s a Nigerian artiste sending me a message. Don’t worry, my message will be delivered,’” Davido said.
His comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun State governorship election, with parties and their supporters campaigning for voters ahead of the poll.
Davido has previously expressed interest in Nigeria’s political affairs and has been vocal about electoral issues, particularly the need for credible elections and greater participation by young Nigerians.
He ended his remarks with an appeal to those involved in the electoral process to allow Osun voters to freely choose their next governor.
“Leave Osun alone oo, leave it,” he said.
