Police in Adamawa State have arrested a man, Andrawus James, for allegedly attempting to sell his 18-year-old niece for ₦7 million after luring her from her parents with a fake promise of securing her a job in Abuja.

He Allegedly Promised Her a Job

James, a resident of Bai village in Yadim District, Fufure Local Government Area, reportedly told his niece, identified simply as Fatima, that he had secured employment for her in the Federal Capital Territory.

Fatima, who lives with her parents in Yola South Local Government Area, was allegedly instructed by her uncle not to tell her parents about the planned journey.

₦7m Deal Uncovered

The alleged plot reportedly came to light earlier in August when James approached Mohamed Buba of New Market, Ganye.

According to the report, James allegedly told Buba that he wanted to become wealthy by selling his niece.

The two reportedly negotiated a ₦7 million price for Fatima and discussed arrangements for her delivery.

Buyer Alerted Security Operatives

Unknown to James, Buba reportedly alerted security personnel after learning about the alleged plan.

On August 16, Buba formally reported the matter at the Ganye Divisional Police Headquarters.

Uncle Arrested With Niece

Security operatives subsequently arrested James when he arrived in Ganye with Fatima for the alleged transaction.

The police have since taken over the case, with investigations ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted sale.

The Adamawa State Police Command is expected to provide further details as the investigation progresses.
