Seven passengers travelling from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market were reportedly shot by unidentified gunmen near the Total Roundabout in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 6:30pm on Sunday, October 4, 2026, as the passengers travelled from the livestock market towards Rafin Bauna in Bassa Local Government Area.
According to sources who spoke to security publication Zagazola Makama, the victims were among 20 passengers travelling in an open-body Boxer vehicle when the gunmen allegedly opened fire near the roundabout.
Seven Passengers Affected
The driver and one of the survivors, identified as Murtala Isa Ibrahim, reportedly said seven passengers were affected in the shooting.
The victims were subsequently taken to Rukuba Barracks Hospital in Plateau for medical attention.
Their current conditions were not immediately known as of the time of filing the report.
No death had been confirmed, while the circumstances surrounding the attack remained unclear.
Attack Raises Fresh Security Concerns
The reported shooting comes amid concerns over the safety of herders, traders and other travellers returning from the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market.
In a related development, a pastoralist association in Plateau State condemned a separate reported attack on Fulani herders around the Federal Low-Cost area of Bukuru.
The association called on security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
It also recalled a September 20 incident in which five Fulani herders were reportedly killed around Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while returning from the same livestock market.
The association further referenced an earlier attack near the Conoil Filling Station in December 2025 involving herders travelling from the market.
Association Calls For Increased Security
The recurring reports have raised concerns about the safety of people who use the livestock market and the routes connecting it to surrounding communities.

The pastoralist association appealed to the Plateau State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Safe Haven, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to strengthen security along the market routes.
It also urged authorities to investigate reported attacks and ensure that those found responsible are prosecuted.
The association appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid retaliatory attacks, stressing the need for equal protection and justice for all residents irrespective of ethnicity or occupation.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the security agencies confirming the latest shooting.
The number of casualties, the identities of the attackers and their motive could therefore not be independently established.
The incident remains a developing situation pending further information from the police, Operation Safe Haven or other relevant authorities.
