The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over alleged homosexual acts following an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects, identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22, Shuaib Aremu, 22, and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23, remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The police received intelligence about the alleged conduct on September 29, 2026, according to reports. Following the tip-off, the Commissioner of Police directed the Command Monitoring Unit’s Saki Operational Base to investigate the allegations and arrest the suspects. Subsequently, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, reportedly said preliminary investigations showed that the three men admitted to engaging in homosexual acts.
However, the authorities have yet to disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged activities or the specific evidence gathered during the investigation.
The arrests come amid Nigeria’s legal restrictions on same-sex relationships and certain related activities under the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013. The law prohibits same-sex marriages and civil unions and prescribes penalties for certain related conduct.
The Act also criminalises the registration of gay clubs, societies and organisations, as well as the public show of same-sex amorous relationships.
The suspects’ arrest does not amount to a conviction, and the allegations remain subject to the ongoing police investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
Although, the police have not publicly disclosed whether prosecutors have filed charges against the three men or when they might appear in court.
The development adds to reported police enforcement of Nigeria’s laws concerning same-sex relationships. Authorities must establish the relevant facts through proper investigation and legal proceedings before a court can determine the suspects’ culpability.
