The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has outlined steps Nigerians can follow to download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips free of charge through its NINAuth mobile application.
The commission demonstrated the process in a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, explaining how registered NIN holders can obtain the official identification document without visiting enrolment centres or paying third-party agents.
The development provides an alternative for Nigerians who need physical copies of their NIN details for identification and other official transactions.
According to the commission, users can access the service by downloading the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
After installing the application, users are required to open it and select the “Do More with NINAuth” option from the available services.
They can then proceed to “NIN Slip” and complete the facial authentication process, which verifies their identity against the information in the National Identity Database.
Following successful verification, users can select the “Download NIN Slip” option to generate and save the official document directly to their mobile devices.
However, NIMC emphasised that the downloaded slip holds the same official recognition as one obtained directly from its offices and qualifies as valid identification for transactions at banks, government agencies and other institutions.
The commission introduced the free download feature in June 2026 as part of efforts to improve access to digital identity services and reduce the need for physical visits to its offices.
Beyond downloading identification slips, NINAuth provides users with access to identity-related services through its “Do More with NINAuth” feature.
The platform also brings together records linked to users’ National Identification Numbers, including their National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) numbers, Tax Identification details, Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) records and consumer credit information.
Notably, the application offers a secure digital identity platform that allows users to confirm their identities and control access to their personal information.
NINAuth users must have an existing NIN and a compatible smartphone running Android or iOS to access the application.
Nigerians who have not enrolled for a NIN must first complete registration at an approved NIMC enrolment centre before using the platform.
The commission has also advised users to obtain the application through its official channels and avoid downloading potentially unsafe versions from unverified websites.
