A man identified as Abiodun has died by suicide in the Idimu area of Lagos State following a disagreement with his longtime girlfriend over their relationship.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday in the Ire Akari area after his girlfriend told him she no longer wanted to continue their relationship.
According to PUNCH Metro, Abiodun, who was said to be in his early 30s, was arguing with his girlfriend when she announced her decision to end the relationship.
Residents who discovered his condition quickly rushed him to a hospital along Powerline Road for medical attention.
A local resident disclosed that Abiodun’s girlfriend left the house after their disagreement but returned to discover that he had consumed the substance. The resident added that neighbours had already taken him to the hospital before his mother, who works at a supermarket in the area, learnt about the incident.
The sources further disclosed that Abiodun’s mother, who reportedly rushed to arrange funds for his treatment and purchase the prescribed medication, returned to the hospital on Sunday morning only to discover that her son had died.
The family subsequently buried Abiodun on Monday, while his girlfriend’s whereabouts remained unknown.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command said it would make enquiries into the incident after its spokesperson initially disclosed that she had no information about the case.
