Platinum and Taylor Hill, a law firm situated in Lagos has called out the Nigerian Police for detaining their colleague who stood as guarantor for an embattled company employee.
According to the firm, the Ogombo Police Station in Lagos detained the lawyer Mr. Timothy Olaniyi after responding to an invitation.
The firm disclosed that Mr. Olaniyi was invited to voluntarily provide information to aid an ongoing investigation relating to a private loan dispute involving a third-party and Metro and Castle Limited, a real estate company. However, he was ambushed, detained and left incommunicado for more than 24 hours following his visit to the station.
Explaining the situation, Olaniyi revealed that he only stood as a guarantor for the company employee who abandoned his employment. He noted that he didn’t do anything wrong that warranted his detention.
“I had only gone to the Police Station on their invitation letter sent to my office. I didn’t expect the company was laying ambush to arrest me for an alleged offence committed by their own employee. It is so unfortunate that the company didn’t reach out personally but through the police to harass, intimidate me.”
The lawyer added that the company should have sued him if they felt he had breached the contract of guarantee between them. Instead, they used the police to harass and intimidate him.
Meanwhile, Platinum and Taylor Hill have indicated that they are initiating all necessary legal proceedings to address the matter.
