The Equatorial Guinea Government has resigned after failing to meet performance targets aimed at improving the country.
The country’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, announced the move, disclosing that the Prime Minister has submitted the resignation of the cabinet to the President.
Mangue, who is also the son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, said the cabinet resigned after attaining “barely 10 percent” of its goals.
He explained that the resignation comes amid efforts to ensure public responsibility comes with results. Particularly, the cabinet has received significant human, material, and financial resources, but its level of execution has been insufficient in relation to the expectations.
While Mangue didn’t reveal the exact targets, the ruling party said the President was dissatisfied with the outgoing administration’s performance.
The Prime Minister Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua and his cabinet secured the governance mandate in 2024 via a Presidential appointment. His government was tasked with carrying out economic reforms to improve living conditions in the country.
However, the Prime Minister’s government’s efforts have been insufficient in addressing the country’s economic issues. The economy continued to struggle following falling oil production, alongside investment decline and external economic shocks.
Meanwhile, a new government is expected to be constituted in the coming days.
