Court revisits NDC registration case, nullifies previous judgment

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja has annuled its earlier judgment that compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

The overturned followed an application filed by the Peace Movement Party (PMP), an association that claimed prior rights to the victory sign symbol allegedly adopted by the NDC. In which the sitting justice, Justice Isah Dashen reportedly set aside the December 2025 judgment in response to the application.

In response to the judgement, NDC expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to revisit a matter on which it had already delivered a final judgment. The party maintained that it remains a registered political party, noting that the court did not issue any order directing its deregistration.

NDC further stressed that, tge party has instructed its legal team to immediately challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal. While insisting that it will continue its political activities and participation in the ongoing 2027 electoral process pending the outcome of the appeal.

However, The party described the ruling as a setback to democratic participation and accused unnamed interests of attempting to narrow the political space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
