The Katsina State Government has unveiled 361 specially assembled tricycle ambulances, popularly known as “Keke” ambulances.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda inspected the fleet of tricycle ambulances on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, ahead of their deployment to Primary Healthcare Centres across each of the state’s 361 political wards.
The inspection took place at the premises of Muhammadu Buhari House in Katsina.
According to reports, the initiative is designed to improve the transportation of patients, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach communities where access to conventional ambulances is often limited. By assigning one tricycle ambulance to every ward, the government aims to ensure quicker emergency response and expand access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots level.
The deployment forms part of the state’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and reduce delays in accessing medical attention, especially in underserved areas.
Meanwhile, this initiative complements the state’s earlier acquisition of 15 high-tech Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulances, strategically stationed along major highways to provide rapid emergency medical response.
Recall that, The 15 high-tech Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulances were officially received by the Katsina State Government on January 5, 2026. In which the ambulances were procured under the State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (SEMSAS) to support 24-hour emergency healthcare services across the state on major roads.
However, the newly introduced 361 tricycle (“Keke”) ambulances are intended to improve patient transportation from rural and hard-to-reach communities to nearby Primary Healthcare Centres.
