The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced a ₦50 million support package for five families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Akpabio made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary, describing the intervention as part of the Senate’s efforts to support families who suffered losses during the tragic incident.
According to him, ₦10 million will be presented to each of the five affected families, including the families of the three security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation and the two teachers who were killed by the abductors.
According to the statement, Akpabio said, “The financial support is part of efforts to provide relief to the affected families following the tragic incident.
“This support package forms part of the Senate’s response to the incident. We also call for intensified support for the bereaved families and coordinated efforts by security agencies to ensure the rescue of other kidnapped victims across the country”.

The Senate also called for increased support for the bereaved families and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of other victims still in captivity across the country.
However, Senator Abdul Ningi, while raising a point of order during plenary, urged the Senate to broaden the compensation initiative to cover all victims of similar attacks.
“The compensation package should be holistic and inclusive, rather than limited to selected categories of victims. Every citizen who suffered losses as a result of the incident deserves equal consideration,” Ningi argued.
The lawmakers also reiterated the need for coordinated security efforts to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country while providing adequate support to victims and their families.
