A kitchen transformation by content creator @OTUNBA_TIZ has generated widespread reactions online after a basic kitchen was redesigned into a modern cooking space for the sum of $725 approximately ₦1 million.
The renovation replaced black cabinets and grey countertops with elegant grey cabinetry, a central black island fitted with a cooktop, and wooden flooring, giving the kitchen a more contemporary appearance.
According to the creator, the remodel was never intended to function as a conventional family kitchen. Instead, it was designed specifically as a content creation culinary space, with the layout optimized for filming cooking videos from multiple tripod and camera angles. A YouTube video documenting the renovation process and breaking down the project costs was also shared.
Despite receiving praise for its aesthetics, the design sparked debate over its practicality. Critics questioned whether the layout prioritised visual appeal at the expense of everyday functionality.
Some observers pointed out that the low overhead cabinets could pose a safety risk by increasing the chances of people hitting their heads while moving around the kitchen. Others argued that the central island left limited circulation space, making the kitchen feel cramped.
Additional concerns included the absence of an extractor hood above the cooktop, limited shelf storage, and other features that some believed would reduce the culinary hub’s efficiency for daily use.
Responding to the criticism, the creator explained that the cooking space was intentionally designed with video production in mind rather than standard household cooking. He acknowledged the concerns raised by viewers but maintained that the layout successfully meets its primary purpose of creating high quality cooking content.
