The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has released fresh guidelines for prospective corps members ahead of the upcoming orientation course, warning them against night travel and outlining important registration requirements.
In a notice issued through its official X handle, the scheme advised prospective corps members to prioritise their safety while travelling to their various orientation camps across the country.
The NYSC specifically warned prospective corps members against embarking on night journeys, urging them to make adequate travel arrangements that would allow them to arrive safely at their assigned camps.
“Prospective Corps Members are advised not to travel at night to the orientation camp,” the scheme stated.
The NYSC also cautioned prospective corps members whose dates of graduation on their call-up letters differ from those stated on their Statements of Results.
According to the scheme, affected candidates will not be allowed to complete registration at the orientation camp until the discrepancies are resolved.
“Prospective Corps Members with discrepancies in the date of graduation on their call-up letters and the date on their statement of results will not be registered in the orientation camp,” the statement said.
The scheme advised prospective corps members facing such challenges to contact their respective Student Affairs Officers and resolve the discrepancies before reporting to camp.
“They should sort out such issues with the Student Affairs Officers before reporting to the camp,” the NYSC added.
The NYSC further reminded prospective corps members to complete all required documentation before travelling to camp.
Candidates were advised to print out their registration forms, sign them and present the documents during the registration exercise at the orientation camp.
“Prospective Corps Members are advised to print and sign the form, which is to be submitted during registration at the orientation camp,” the scheme stated.
The NYSC also provided guidelines for prospective corps members seeking to correct errors in their dates of birth.
According to the scheme, applicants are required to obtain either a 19-digit or 20-digit WAEC Verification PIN before beginning the correction process through their personal NYSC dashboards.
To correct a date-of-birth discrepancy, affected prospective corps members are expected to log in to their NYSC dashboards and select the “Correction of Date of Birth” option.
They are then required to enter their WAEC Verification PIN and provide relevant examination details, including the type of WAEC examination, year of examination and examination number.
After entering the required information, applicants are expected to verify the details and submit their correction requests through the portal.
The NYSC urged prospective corps members to carefully follow all the guidelines and resolve any outstanding issues before reporting to camp.
The scheme noted that compliance with the requirements would help ensure a smooth registration process and prevent avoidable delays or challenges during the orientation exercise.
Prospective corps members were also encouraged to carefully review the information on their call-up letters and other documents before embarking on their journeys
The orientation camp is the first phase of the one-year mandatory national service programme and includes registration, verification of documents, physical training, leadership activities, skills acquisition programmes and other activities designed to prepare corps members for their service year.
The NYSC urged all prospective corps members to prioritise their safety, complete the required documentation and comply with all camp registration guidelines.
