A Nigerian lady has gone viral after breaking down in tears when her ex-boyfriend allegedly demanded the return of a fridge he bought for her during their relationship.
The lady shared her emotional reaction in a video after receiving a WhatsApp message from her former partner asking her to prepare the fridge for collection.
According to the message, the man said his friend, identified as Femi, would come to pick up the appliance.
“Please get the fridge I bought for you ready, Femi is coming to pick it up this evening or tomorrow morning… E go too pain me if I leave am for you.”
The message reportedly left the woman upset, as she questioned why her former partner would ask for a gift back after their relationship had ended.
Lady plans to return all his gifts
The woman said her ex had bought the Skyron fridge for her a few months earlier and recently contacted her from another number to inform her that his friend would collect it.
While describing the move as childish, she said she had already emptied the fridge and was prepared to hand it over.
However, she revealed that she intended to return more than just the appliance.
“I will not just allow him to pick only the fridge. Whatever he bought for me while we were together, the shoes, the bag, everything, I’ll put them inside the fridge and send them to him.”
The emotional lady also questioned the meaning of the gifts if they could simply be reclaimed after a relationship ended.
She further suggested that her ex’s decision had made her question his feelings for her during their relationship.
“It’s obvious he never loved me, this is too childish.”
Social media reacts
The video has since sparked debate on social media, with users sharing different opinions on whether gifts given during a relationship should be returned after a breakup.
While some sympathised with the woman and criticised the man for demanding the fridge back, others argued that people should be careful about accepting expensive gifts in relationships, particularly when the relationship has not reached marriage.
The incident has also reignited the familiar online debate about ownership of gifts after romantic relationships come to an end.
