A social media post has reignited public outrage over the alleged stabbing death of 17-year-old salesgirl Ihechidere Favour Uka in Lagos, months after reports emerged about the case.
The post, shared by @chiamakaaaaaaa yesterday, referenced a February 2026 news report concerning the teenager’s alleged killing and accused her 30-year-old employer, Ibekwe Ezinne Mary, of involvement in the incident.
According to earlier reports, the incident followed an argument between the two women at a cosmetics shop in Lagos. The disagreement allegedly escalated before Favour was stabbed in the chest.
Reports at the time stated that the suspect was arrested by the police and allegedly confessed to the offence. However, details circulating on social media about what happened afterward have generated fresh controversy.
In the recent post, the account alleged that the suspect later failed to appear in court, was released and subsequently fled the country. Notably, these additional claims have not been independently verified.
The post has sparked widespread reactions with Nigerians expressing frustration over what they perceive as failures in the country’s justice system and the lack of accountability in cases involving vulnerable young workers.
Many users also called for stronger protections for young people employed as domestic workers, salesgirls and other low wage workers, particularly those who may have limited power to challenge abusive or unsafe working conditions.
As the old report continues to circulate, Nigerians have renewed calls for transparency in the handling of the case and for authorities to provide clarity on the suspect’s legal status and the current progress of the investigation or prosecution.
The allegations surrounding the suspect’s release, court appearance and alleged departure from Nigeria remain unverified, and no official statement confirming those claims was cited in the circulating recent post.
