The Federal Government has reintegrated over 700 repentant terrorists into the society as part of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Safe Corridor.
The event which took place on April 16, featured the official reintroduction of the terrorists into the society.
Speaking at the event, Brig. Gen. Yusuf Ali, Operation Safe Corridor’s Coordinator revealed that the project is plagued by misinformation.
He stated that the Nigerian military does not recruit these repentant terrorists, contrary to the popular rumors. He explained that the military has its own recruitment methods that don’t include these individuals.
Nevertheless, the action has attracted massive backlash considering the rising insecurity in the country.
Critics argue that some of the repentant terrorists may return to their old ways, thereby threatening further insecurity. They added that the terrorists’ release could also demoralize soldiers who have lost colleagues to the war against insurgency.
