FG Announces N50,000 Monthly Cash Support for Poor Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced a monthly cash support of ₦50,000 for eligible poor households under a new relief programme aimed at helping Nigerians cope with rising living costs.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the commencement of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to the minister, the programme is designed to provide immediate financial assistance to households struggling with rising food prices and the increasing cost of essential goods.

How the N50,000 Support Will Be Paid

Under the intervention, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₦50,000 monthly to help meet basic household needs.

Doro said the programme would be reviewed periodically to reflect changes in the cost of living. Beneficiaries would be notified directly before any adjustment to the payment.

He explained that the ministry was working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure that payments were made securely and transparently.

According to him, beneficiaries would receive text messages from the service providers seeking their consent before the money is transferred directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

No Application or Registration Fee Required

The minister stressed that Nigerians would not need to apply, pay any fee or register through agents to benefit from the programme.

He also warned against fraudsters attempting to exploit the intervention, advising Nigerians not to disclose their personal identification numbers (PINs) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) to anyone.

Doro urged anyone who receives a suspicious message or is asked to make a payment to contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

He said the intervention would complement existing Federal Government social protection and economic support programmes.

The minister added that the initiative was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and would be implemented with a commitment to dignity, transparency and accountability.
