Amaechi Says Only ‘Mad People’ Will Vote For Tinubu In 2027

Amaechi Says Only ‘Mad People’ Will Vote For Tinubu In 2027

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has said Nigerians who vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election would be “mad,” urging voters in Edo State to reject the president’s re-election bid.

Amaechi made the remarks on Thursday, October 8, at an ADC stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Benin City, Edo State, where party leaders and supporters gathered to discuss the party’s plans ahead of the 2027 general election.

“They are going about saying, vote Tinubu, vote Tinubu; only thieves will vote for Tinubu,” Amaechi said.

He added that he had seen a social media post suggesting the 2027 election would reveal how many people in Nigeria were “mad.”

“It is only a madman that can vote for Tinubu,” he said.

Addressing voters in Edo State, Amaechi added: “If Edo people vote for Tinubu, that means Edo people are mad. If you are not mad, Tinubu should not win here.”

Amaechi Faults Tinubu’s Economic Policies

The ADC vice-presidential candidate also criticised Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy, which he argued had worsened the hardship faced by Nigerians.

He rejected the president’s description of the subsidy removal as an act of courage, saying the decision was reckless despite warnings about its possible consequences.

“There is a difference between courage and recklessness. Tinubu wasn’t courageous; he was reckless,” Amaechi said.

He also lamented the rising cost of living, arguing that many Nigerians were struggling to afford basic necessities.

“People are not able to feed. Things are difficult,” he said.

Amaechi called for policies that would encourage local production and reduce the financial pressure on households and businesses.

He said Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate, would introduce production subsidies to support local industries and boost domestic output if elected in 2027.

The remarks have placed the ADC campaign’s criticism of Tinubu’s economic policies at the centre of the political debate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
