Nigerian Army busts 2 illegal arms factory in Plateau, arrests five suspects

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have uncovered two illegal arms manufacturing sites in Jos South Local Government of Plateau State.

The Army disclosed that it raided the factories on Thursday 7, May 2026, following a series of intelligence gathering and strategic surveillance. Per the statement, the move aligns with ongoing efforts to cut off the supply chain of illicit firearms in the region.

The raid led to the arrest of 5 suspects caught fabricating lethal weapons. Recovered weapons include 9 fabricated AK 47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, 4 empty AK 47 magazines, 7 skeletal AK 47 rifles and 10ย  rifle butts.

Other items include 36 empty shells of 7.62mm special, 4ย  revolver engines, 14 recoiling springs, 6 hand drilling machines. The Nigerian Army also recovered 9 filing machines, 4 welding machines and assorted industrial equipment.

The Nigerian Army stated that;

While troops are currently consolidating the ongoing covert operation in order to mop-up the remnants of arms and ammunition already in circulation, Operation ENDURING PEACE appreciates the support of the citizenry and urged them to be more vigilant and report suspicious activities of criminal elements to security agencies.
