Breaking: JAMB exempts Education and non-Engineering Agriculture candidates from UTME

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has declared a major exemption for candidates seeking admission into certain courses.

The agency disclosed in a May 11 statement on X that;

โ€œCandidates seeking admissions into Education Programs and Agriculture non-Engineering Courses are now exempted from UTME.โ€

Notably, the directive emerged during JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting.

During the meeting, JAMB revealed that the number of applicants for Education and Agriculture-related courses do not meet the expected quota. Hence, the exemption is likely an attempt to redirect candidates to fill these spots and renew interest in these courses.

Announcing the move, Minister for Education Mr. Tunji Alausa stressed that the education exemption applied to candidates seeking admission into Colleges of Education (COEs). Instead, candidates will now require only four credits in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to qualify.

However, the candidates would still be expected to register with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
