Thailand police announced arrest of six Nigerian men accused of engaging in romance scam operations, defrauding victims online.
According to reports, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated arrest operations. Revealing that investigations carried out by the police on the fraudulent activities is linked to online dating and social media platforms, which leads to the arrest of the suspects.
The men who are accused of allegedly involved in deceiving victims by posing as romantic partners online. While manipulating them into sending money under false pretenses, using AI-generated faces and fake video call.
While the name of the suspects remains undisclosed, the Thailand police explained that evidence recovered during the operation is being examined as part of ongoing investigations. After which the suspects will face charges related to fraud and cybercrime in accordance with Thai law.
Notably the arrests highlight continued efforts by law enforcement agencies in Thailand to crack down on transnational cyber fraud and online scam networks operating within the country.
