Atiku appoints Kenneth Okonkwo as Spokesperson for 2027 Campaign despite recent opposition

African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Candidate VP Atiku Abubakar has appointed former Peter Obi ally Kenneth Okonkwo as Spokesperson for his 2027 Presidential Campaign.

Okonkwo, while announcing the appointment said it speaks volumes of VP Atiku Abubakar’s democracy credentials.

“Rather than pick offence against any of his associates for expressing genuine reservations of any action taken, [His Excellency Atiku Abubakar] always opts for dialogue and compromise that will engender solution to problems,” he noted.

Okonkwo’s appointment comes a few weeks after he openly vowed not to support the ADC Presidential Candidate. He stated at the time that Atiku’s nomination of Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as running mate sidelined the South East. As such, he would not be working with any candidate without a Southeast VP.

However, he explained that the issue had been discussed with the interest of the South-East guaranteed.

According to him;

At a dialogue with HE AA and other well meaning members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the interests of the South-East have been discussed and guaranteed within the existing challenges posed by the Electoral Act, 2026, and the realities on the ground.

Notably, Okonkwo served as Peter Obi’s spokesperson in the 2023 elections before their falling out. Currently, Obi is pushing a nearly N8 billion defamation lawsuit against Okonkwo over corruption allegations.
