Federal Government declares two days public holiday for Eid-el-Kabir celebration

The Federal Government has approved Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, who extended warm congratulations to the Muslim faithful across the country as they prepare to celebrate one of Islam’s most significant religious festivals.

The minister urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, and compassion, which Eid-el-Kabir symbolizes. While also encouraging citizens to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in the country.

He further called on Nigerians to use the festive period to promote harmony and strengthen bonds within their communities. By encouraging togetherness, oneness and peaceful coexistence.

Notably, Eid-el-Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is observed by Muslims worldwide. In remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
