The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions nationwide under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The Federal Ministry of Finance disclosed the disbursement in a statement issued on Sunday by its Head of Media, Efe Ovuakporie. The intervention covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education across the country. Universities received the largest share of the funding, with ₦28.5 billion allocated to 79 institutions. Polytechnics received ₦5.8 billion, while colleges of education received ₦4.7 billion.
The ministry explained that the funds would enable beneficiary institutions to commence new projects or continue previously approved interventions targeting critical infrastructure gaps and other identified institutional needs.
The projects are expected to improve campus facilities, strengthen institutional capacity and create better environments for teaching and learning. However, the ministry did not specify individual projects or completion timelines in its announcement.
The government also linked the disbursement to its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), as part of efforts to address challenges affecting public tertiary education.
However, the ministry further stressed the importance of coordination between the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and beneficiary institutions to ensure that the funds achieve their intended objectives.
It added that effective collaboration would help translate the financial intervention into measurable improvements in educational infrastructure and institutional capacity.
The Federal Ministry of Finance advised members of the public seeking information about beneficiary institutions and their individual allocations to consult its official website for further details.
