KWASU set to stop HND/BSC Conversion programme this year

Kwara State University (KWASU) has revealed plans to halt its Top-Up/HND to BSc Conversion programme this year.

The university made the disclosure on Monday citing compliance to a directive from the National Universities Commission (NUC), Punch reported.

The programme, which allows HND graduates to secure KWASU’s BSc certification is scheduled to end after the completion of the 2025/2026 academic session.ย Notably, the planned stoppage comes as some students are still enrolled in the programme.

However, KWASU disclosed that the NUC will give directives on the status of students already enrolled on the programme in due course.

The HND conversion programme emerged as a way to allow polytechnic graduates to acquire Bachelor of Science (BSc) qualification. This follows failed legislative efforts to end Nigeria’s HND-BSC dichotomy which has caused continued discrimination between those sets of graduates.

While there have been multiple calls for equal recognition, the efforts have all proven futile as discrimination continues.
