The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery and carjacking syndicate allegedly operating in the Alakuko area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Faruk Rasheed, 28-year-old Olamilekan Ademola and 21-year-old Abidemi Oluwawemo, were arrested by operatives of the Command following what the police described as credible intelligence.
The arrests form part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb armed robbery, carjacking and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in the snatching of vehicles and robbery of members of the public.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects allegedly specialised in car snatching and robbing innocent citizens of their valuables,” Adebisi said.
Police recover three locally made pistols
The police said the arrest also led to the recovery of three locally made firearms and eight rounds of live ammunition.
According to the Command, two of the locally made pistols were recovered loaded with five cartridges, while a locally made revolver pistol was also recovered with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The recovery, the police said, formed part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the alleged syndicate.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate,” the statement added.
Investigation ongoing
The Command said investigations were continuing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in robbery and carjacking activities, as well as to identify and arrest other members of the group.
The police did not disclose details of specific carjacking or robbery incidents allegedly linked to the suspects, saying efforts were still underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The arrests come amid the Lagos State Police Command’s sustained operations against criminal networks involved in violent crimes across the state.
CP vows to dismantle criminal networks
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and strengthen security across Lagos.
Fatai assured residents that the police would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against armed robbers, carjackers and other criminals.
“The Lagos State Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of residents across Lagos State,” the Command said.
The commissioner also called on residents to support security efforts by providing timely information about suspicious activities and emergencies.
Police release emergency numbers
The Command urged members of the public to promptly contact the police whenever they notice suspicious movements or require emergency assistance.
The police said information from members of the public remains important in helping security agencies identify criminal networks and prevent violent crimes across the state.
