Man arrested for allegedly beating wife to death over food in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death following a domestic dispute in Angwan Yahaya, Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday after a disagreement reportedly erupted when the woman allegedly refused to prepare food, leading to a physical altercation.

The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the case was reported at the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m., prompting officers to immediately visit the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa, where she was confirmed dead and her body preserved for further examination.

Police said the suspect was arrested and allegedly confessed to assaulting his wife during interrogation.

“The suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation, claiming he attacked his wife in anger after she reportedly refused to prepare food.”

According to the police authorities, the suspect also expressed remorse over the incident.

The deceased is survived by two children, a boy and a girl, from the couple’s six-year marriage.

State police Commissioner’s decision

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a thorough investigation.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police said.

The commissioner, however, condemned all forms of domestic violence, describing the incident as tragic and avoidable, while urging couples to resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue rather than violence.

Police further assured residents that security remains stable in Agyaragu and surrounding communities, with officers continuing to monitor the area as investigations continue.
