Nigeria Police Extradites Chinese fugitive over alleged $245 million investment fraud

Nigeria police force has announced the arrest and extradition of a Chinese fugitive, Xu Qing to his country over alleged investment fraud.

According to the police, the extradition followed a formal request from the People’s Republic of China dated 12th November 2025 through Shinan Sub-Bureau of Qingdao Public Security.

Xu Qing fled China to Nigeria on 5th November 2024 in order to evade prosecution after being charged with the illegal large-scale absorption of public funds, estimated at Two Hundred and Forty-Five Million United States Dollars ($245,000,000).

The Nigeria Police Force disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at a factory in Ogun State on April 24, 2026, after years of tracking.

Following his arrest with subsequent investigation, the suspect was extradited to the People’s Republic of China on 28th April 2026 through bilateral police cooperation arrangements to face prosecution for the offences.

The development was announced via NPF official X handle today while urging Nigerian industries to be self aware including background checks before engaging in with the foreign nationals.

Reaffirming its instance, NPF further pledged continued commitment in ensuring that Nigeria does not serve as a safe haven for fugitives.
