“Personal Growth Inspired My Departure From Signature Pink Look” – DJ Cuppy Explains

Nigerian disc jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about her decision to move away from the pink-themed appearance that defined her public image for years.

The entertainer explained that personal growth and a desire for creative freedom influenced her decision to embrace other colours instead of sticking to one signature look.

During an interview with GQ Poland, Cuppy reflected on how pink became a major part of her identity when she began her music career about 17 years ago. She explained that the colour helped her express her femininity, confidence and individuality in a music industry largely dominated by men.

According to her, pink initially served as a statement of identity and helped her establish a distinct presence in the entertainment industry.

However, she later realised that she could communicate the same confidence and personality through different colours without limiting herself to a particular fashion choice

Cuppy added that her experiences in the industry have strengthened her confidence, making her less dependent on a particular appearance to establish her identity or prove her place in the music scene.

She noted that she no longer wants people to associate her personality or professional identity with just one colour.

Describing her new fashion direction, the DJ said she wants a style that reflects vibrancy, a sense of grounding and her cultural identity.

Her decision marks a departure from the pink aesthetic that became one of her most recognisable trademarks, as she embraces a broader expression of her personality and fashion choices.
