The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called for stronger relationships between Muslim and Christian leaders, saying religious differences should not prevent Nigerians from living and interacting peacefully.
The Sultan said leaders of both faiths could sit together, share meals and build bonds despite their different religious backgrounds.
“I believe Muslim and Christian leaders can sit in one place, drink fura, eat amala and tuwo together,” the Sultan said.
Sultan Advocates Religious Tolerance
The monarch’s remarks centred on the importance of dialogue, friendship and mutual understanding between Nigeria’s two major religious communities.

He stressed the need for Muslims and Christians to recognise their shared humanity and maintain relationships that promote peace and national unity.
According to the Sultan, eating and socialising together can be part of building the trust needed to address religious and social tensions.

Nigeria has experienced longstanding religious and communal tensions in different parts of the country, making calls for interfaith dialogue a recurring theme among religious and community leaders.
The Sultan has consistently advocated peaceful coexistence and cooperation between Muslims and Christians, particularly on issues affecting national unity.
His latest remarks highlight the idea that religious differences need not prevent Nigerians from sharing everyday social experiences and working together for the common good.
