Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reportedly intervened to prevent police officers from arresting Isese advocate Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The reported incident occurred on Tuesday morning at Tani Olohun’s residence, amid an ongoing criminal case involving allegations that he mocked an Islamic prayer in a social media video.
According to reports, police officers allegedly arrived at the residence and attempted to take Tani Olohun away.
Family reportedly calls Igboho for help
Sources cited in the report said Tani Olohun’s family contacted Igboho after the alleged arrest attempt began.
Igboho reportedly arrived at the scene with some supporters and confronted the officers, insisting that Tani Olohun should not be taken away.
One source claimed that Igboho arrived after Tani Olohun had already engaged in a scuffle with the officers.
The source alleged that Igboho asked the police to hand Tani Olohun over to him, despite claims that a court had issued an arrest warrant.
Tense confrontation captured on video
A video reportedly shared on Facebook showed individuals believed to be police officers at Tani Olohun’s residence.
The men, who were reportedly dressed in civilian clothing and carrying firearms, were seen around the Isese advocate during the tense encounter.
A relative of Tani Olohun could be heard alleging that the men were attempting to abduct him, while calling on members of the public to intervene.
Another person recording the incident questioned the identity of the officers and alleged that they had travelled from Ilorin, Kwara State, to Ibadan.
The circumstances surrounding the reported operation, including the exact legal basis for the attempted arrest, remained unclear.
Arrest linked to alleged mockery of Islamic prayer
The development comes amid a criminal case filed against Tani Olohun by the Ilorin Heritage Preservation Foundation.
The foundation allegedly accused him of publishing a video on Facebook, YouTube and TikTok which it claimed mocked an Islamic sacred prayer and could provoke religious tension.
The allegations reportedly include incitement of religious disturbance, contempt of religious creed and injurious falsehood.
The case is before the Upper Area Court II, Ilorin Judicial Division, with proceedings reportedly adjourned until September 1, 2026.
Igboho could face legal consequences
The reported intervention has also raised questions over whether Igboho could face legal consequences for allegedly obstructing the police.
A source claimed that the court could take action against him for preventing the arrest.
However, the allegation could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a reaction from Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, were reportedly unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
The allegations against Tani Olohun remain unproven and will be subject to determination by the court.
