United Kingdom Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Phillips has criticized the authorities’ failure to deport a Nigerian, Gift Oladele convicted of rape, arguing that the offender should not have been allowed to remain in the country.
Philip made the remarks during a parliamentary session while commenting on the case. He described the judgement as another example of shortcomings in the UK’s immigration and deportation system.
Philip questioned why an individual convicted of such a serious offence was permitted to stay in the country instead of being deported after serving his sentence.
He highlights the need for tougher enforcement of deportation policies, particularly for foreign nationals convicted of violent crimes.
According to him, public confidence in the immigration system is undermined when offenders are allowed to remain in the UK despite having criminal convictions.
The prominent Politician further urged the authorities to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to expedite the deportation of foreign criminals. While highlighting fact that the rights of the minor should be more protected over supposed human rights of accused.
