The Kano State Government has announced a ban on “after-party” gatherings and the popular “hot challenge” activities held during wedding celebrations.
The directive was issued by the Kano State Censorship Board, which said the decision forms part of renewed efforts to ensure public events comply with established moral and social standards across the state. While describing the activities as practices that conflict with the state’s cultural and religious values.
According to the board, wedding organizers, event planners, DJs, MCs, and entertainment providers have been instructed to refrain from organizing or promoting such activities at wedding receptions and related ceremonies.
The board warned that anyone found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law, adding that monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure compliance at event venues.
Officials stressed that the move is targeted at preserving the sanctity of marriage ceremonies, maintaining public decency, and preventing activities considered inappropriate for family oriented events.
However, the announcement has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some residents supporting the decision as necessary to uphold cultural and religious values. While others argue that it places unnecessary restrictions on personal expression during private celebrations.
Notably, the Kano State Government has urged members of the public, event organizers, and entertainment practitioners to cooperate with the new directive. Also emphasizing its commitment to promoting responsible social conduct while preserving the state’s traditions.
