A prospective member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has triggered waves of reactions online after rejecting deployment to Kano State in a viral video.
The corps member’s video circulated on social media after the release of NYSC call-up letters for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II, quickly drew mixed responses from Nigerians. According to her, NYSC posting her to Kano while she is in Owerri is unfair amid the whole insecurity in the country, citing personal concerns over the posting.
She said:
“I’m staying in owerri you’re taking me to Kano with the whole insecurity not even a close by state, Did my father say he has 50M naira for ransom”
The development has reignited discussions about the safety, welfare, and deployment preferences of prospective corps members, particularly regarding postings to states outside their regions of origin..
Recall that, NYSC’s deployment policy is designed to ensure the equitable distribution of graduates across the federation, encouraging cultural exchange and national unity. The scheme has consistently advised corps members to accept their postings and contribute positively to their host communities.
Her remarks come amid heightened conversations on social media following the release of the latest NYSC call-up letters. As many prospective corps members expressed concerns about their states of deployment.
While some sympathized with the individual’s concerns advising her to use flight if at all she wants to travel or stay back to be on a safer side. However, others criticized the reaction, arguing that the essence of the NYSC scheme is to promote national integration through deployment across different parts of the country.
