Security forces have intensified efforts to rescue pupils, teachers, and other victims abducted from a school in Oyo State, with troops reportedly blocking key escape routes used by the kidnappers.
According to vanguard the ongoing rescue operation has significantly mounted pressure on the abductors, leading to reduction of initial ransom demanded.
The kidnappers, who are believed to be operating within forest border parts of Oyo State, have faced increasing difficulty in moving the victims due to sustained surveillance and coordinated ground operations. Troops are said to have established strategic checkpoints and patrols along suspected transit routes in the National Park where the victims are reportedly being held by their captives.
The reports further stated that the alleged ringleader of the kidnappers is an indigene of Oriire Local Government Area. It is believed to have adopted extremist ideology after residing in the area, eventually joining the Ansaru terrorist group.
However, the authorities further assured residents that every effort is being made to secure the safe release of the victims while maintaining pressure on the abductors. Security operatives also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could aid ongoing rescue efforts.
The abduction of the schoolchildren and teachers since May 15, has sparked widespread concern across the state, with parents and community leaders calling for swift action to ensure the victims are returned unharmed.
As the operation continues, security agencies remain optimistic that the intensified offensive and restriction of escape corridors will further weaken the kidnappers’ position and increase the chances of a successful rescue mission.
