The Oyo State Government has imposed a 16-hour evening-to-morning curfew on 10 Local Governments amid efforts to rescue victims of kidnapping across the state.
The announcement issued by the Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade disclosed that the curfew seeks to protect residents from insecurity issues like kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Specifically, the curfew would take effect from 4:00 pm to 8:00am starting from Wednesday June 24, 2026. The curfew is scheduled to run for the next 48 hours at the first instance before further Government directives.
The curfew targets local governments bordering the Old Oyo National Park which has become an abode for criminal activities.
As such, the affected local governments include;
- Oriire LGA, headquartered in Ikoyi-Ile
- Oorelope LGA, headquartered in Igboho
- Irepo LGA, headquartered in Kisi
- Saki West LGA, headquartered in Saki
- Saki East LGA, headquartered in Ago-Amodu
- Atisbo LGA, headquartered in Tede/Ago-Are
- Itesiwaju LGA, headquartered in Otu
- Iseyin LGA, headquartered in Iseyin
- Olorunsogo LGA, headquartered in Igbeti
- Atiba LGA, headquartered in Offa-Meta, Oyo
The Government explained that the curfew is part of ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity around the Old Oyo National Park. Hence, they encouraged residents of the affected LGAs to comply with the directives to allow security agencies to intensify operations.
The government’s curfew move comes roughly 40 days after the infamous Oyo Kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government. The event, which included the abduction of over 40 students and teachers, has since triggered a chain of events.
These include massive protests and school shutdowns in solidarity with the abducted learners and teachers.
Despite the government’s effort to rescue victims of the Oyo Kidnapping, several similar incidents have increased across the state.
