Tension erupts in Ibadan after tricycle mechanic allegedly killed

Tension gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday after the alleged killing of a tricycle mechanic sparked unrest and prompted the deployment of security personnel to restore calm.

The incident, which reportedly occurred overnight, disrupted normal activities as panic spread across parts of the community.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the victim, identified as a Yoruba tricycle mechanic, was stabbed to death during an altercation involving suspected Hausa scrap collectors.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially confirmed by the police or other security agencies.

The alleged killing reportedly triggered angry reactions from some youths, leading to clashes and heightened tension in the area, while several residents fled their homes for fear of possible reprisal attacks.

Some business owners reportedly shut their shops, while motorists and commuters avoided the area as the security situation deteriorated.

In response, security operatives, including personnel of Operation Burst, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, were deployed to strategic locations in and around Ojoo to restore order and prevent the violence from escalating.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Olayinka Ayanlade, said the situation had been brought under control.

“The situation in Ojoo has been brought under control and the area is calm,” the police spokesperson said.

As of the time of filing this report, normalcy had largely returned to the community, although security personnel remained on ground to maintain peace and forestall any further breakdown of law and order.
