Former Anambra State governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, says he fears for his safety and believes he may not be alive to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, where he alleged that his businesses and personal activities were being deliberately frustrated.
Responding to a question on whether he would be on the ballot in 2027, Obi said he could not make such a guarantee.
“Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living, this government is frustrating it. Deliberately so. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity, I will not be alive,” he said.
Although he stopped short of making a direct accusation against the government, Obi maintained that he regularly experiences actions he believes are aimed at obstructing his activities.
According to him, the alleged treatment reflects a broader pattern of intimidation against opposition figures across the country.
“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally,” he said, adding that he has also been denied some of the benefits and privileges due to him.
To support his claim, Obi recounted an incident at an airport where he alleged that security officials locked his vehicle while allowing others to leave without interference.
“But I said, ‘Look at the cars of other people.’ And you could see them talking to each other, as if, ‘Who is this one?'” he recalled.
The former governor also claimed that some of his associates have become reluctant to be seen with him publicly because of fear of possible consequences.
He said some supporters had even asked him not to attend important family events to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
“I have people send me invitations and say, ‘My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come,'” Obi said.
