DJ Chicken Remanded After Failing to Meet Bail Conditions

Controversial Nigerian entertainer DJ Chicken has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail conditions granted by the court.

His lawyer confirmed that DJ Chicken was arraigned on Friday and pleaded not guilty to all three charges brought against him. Although the court granted him bail, the defence was unable to satisfy the conditions immediately.

“DJ Chicken was arraigned in court this morning and was granted bail. Unfortunately, we were unable to meet the bail conditions, so he will remain in prison for now. Hopefully, he will regain his freedom on Monday,” his lawyer said.

Although DJ Chicken had earlier publicly retracted the controversial statements, claiming they were made solely for content creation, prosecutors still proceeded with a three-count charge against the entertainer.

The charges include:

  • Allegedly posting a video on social media threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
  • Allegedly publishing a grossly offensive and menacing message targeting Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
  • Allegedly engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate granted DJ Chicken bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a government employee.  While the other must be a community leader who owns property in Lagos State. Both sureties are also required to present three years’ tax clearance, a LASRRA card, a National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. Additionally, one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

As the bail conditions have not yet been met, the court ordered that DJ Chicken remain in custody at Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail.

However, the case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026.
