The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned three men over alleged impersonation of Nigerian blogger Tunde Ednut and fraud involving ₦18.26 million in Abuja.
The defendants, Raymond Charles Yafetus, Auwal Ibrahim and Babangida Yahaya Ibrahim, appeared before Justice S. O. Ibrahim of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
The commission filed three charges against them bordering on cybercrime, conspiracy to commit fraud, impersonation and obtaining money under false pretences.
According to the EFCC, the defendants allegedly impersonated Adekunle Tunde Olaoluwa, popularly known as Tunde Ednut, between April and June 2026.
The charge alleged that they used the assumed identity to open bank accounts in different Nigerian banks and obtained ₦18,264,700 from unsuspecting members of the public.
The commission said the alleged offences contravened Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, which provides punishment under Section 22(b)(iv) of the same law.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when the court read them out. Following their pleas, prosecution counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendants at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Justice Ibrahim granted the request and ordered that the defendants remain at the correctional facility pending further proceedings. The judge subsequently adjourned the case until November 17, 2026, for further hearing.
Notably, the allegations remain unproven, and the defendants retain their right to a fair trial as the case proceeds.
