The Residents of Umulogho community in Imo State have been left in shock after a man allegedly involved in the rape and murder of a young woman reportedly joined a protest demanding justice for her death.
According to reports, the main suspect had allegedly asked the victim out on several occasions but was repeatedly turned down. It was gathered that he later enlisted the help of a vulcanizer who lives opposite the victim’s lodge. After which the duo allegedly broke into her residence, assaulted her multiple times, and murdered her.
The peaceful community organized an angry march while calling on the Otoko Police Division to intensify investigations. Initially, the victim’s boyfriend had been detained after he reportedly discovered her body and alerted villagers. But many residents insisted he was innocent and demanded further inquiries.
During the protest, some residents approached the vulcanizer to ask if he had noticed any suspicious activity around the victim’s lo
dge.
However, they allegedly noticed scratch marks on his face and began questioning him more intensely. He reportedly confessed to being involved in the crime and revealed that he had an accomplice.
In a shocking twist, the main suspect was among those participating in the protest when the vulcanizer identified him in the crowd. Witnesses claimed he was immediately confronted and later admitted to the crime. Leading authorities to the alleged murder weapon, a knife reportedly belonging to the vulcanizer.
Reports indicate that the victim was allegedly killed after recognizing her attackers in order to avoid being exposed.
Both suspects are now in police custody, while the victim’s boyfriend has reportedly been released.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage online and within the community, with many expressing disbelief. Realizing that one of the alleged perpetrators can participate in a march seeking justice for the very crime he accused of committing.
