An Islamic Cleric identified as Mufti of Iwo has threatened to take violent actions against critics opposing the establishment of a Sharia council in Oyo State.
The Cleric, in a video circulating on social media, that a Sharia Council would be established in Oyo state. He added that Osun State will be the next destination after Oyo.
The cleric described opponents as “mad” while inciting his members to take violent actions against them.
“My response to Oyo people who have guts to reject Sharia law in Oyo State is that y’all are mad, and if you come to us to say nonsense we will beat you mercilessly. Sharia Law Council will hold in Oyo, and it will come to Osun too” – Mufti of Iwo boasted.

Reacting to the video, Nigerians have described his words as inciting. Others raised concerns over a jihadist-like flags in his background, while calling for his arrests
Notably, the threat has revived debates over voluntary Sharia panels in Southwest Nigeria’s multi-faith society.
