Nigerian Billionaire and Giwa Gardens Boss Keji Giwa has attracted massive backlash after disclosing that he’s banking on Nigeria not getting better to thrive.
Giwa revealed in a recent podcast that he is perfectly okay whether Nigeria gets better or not. The UK-trained entrepreneur stated that he his supporting Nigerian President Bola Tinubu despite people’s backlash.
He explained that his support for the President represents a pragmatic move to avoid retaliation or policies that can ruin his ventures like Giwa Gardens and others.
“If I don’t support Tinubu, what do you expect me to do? Whether Nigeria gets better or not, I’m perfectly okay. In fact I’m banking on it not getting better.” – Businessman Keji Giwa
However, the remarks drew sharp backlash amid economic woes from reforms like fuel subsidy cuts, with many calling for boycotts while some praised his bluntness.
One X user, Collins said;
Very sad indeed but that’s his truth. He knows his choice is wrong and his heart is nothing short of evil and he is honest and shameless about it…. That is more than we can say about most Nigerians who know the same but come up with lies and excuse all with the aim of deceiving others and dragging them to the dark side.
Collins furthered that the Giwa Gardens owner is a product of a society that has prioritized wealth and materialism over morals and character.
Another user Groovy added that;
This is how the upper middle class or bourgeoisie Nigerians think. I better pass my neighbour so I am cool. The other side of this is the Nigeria will favor me and mine clowns.
Meanwhile, proponents like @Daniverse argued that;
Unfortunately you might not entirely agree with his submission or with his use of words but, this it is what it is. This kind of mindset keeps you at the top of the food chain.
