The Osun State Government has debunked false reports regarding a school kidnapping and bandit invasion which have sparked panic across the state.
The Government disclosed on June 2 that it has taken proactive steps to secure Osun schools. Hence, it urged the public to ignore recent false alarms about school kidnappings in some parts of the state.
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke described the rumor as the handiwork of evil opposition elements. However, “fact checks from the border areas and across the state confirmed that there was no case of kidnappings.”
“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented”, the governor noted.
Notably, the government’s clarification follows unconfirmed reports of bandit activities in Ikirun and Oyan, in Osun State.
The reports alleged that bandits left a letter at a school in Ikirun. And this quickly spread to nearby areas like Osogbo, Obaagun, and Iree, causing schools to shut down and families to gather anxiously outside.
