Osun State Government considers buying surveillance drones following disappearance five previously acquired ones

The Osun State Government is mulling the acquisition of new surveillance drones for the state amid heightening security tensions, according to a June 3 statement.

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke asked his security teams to consider acquiring new drones for security after five drones paid for by the previous administration disappeared.

The statement signed by the Spokesperson to the state Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed revealed that;

Government records indicated that Osun state had paid for five security drones under former Governor Oyetola, but none was on ground as of 2022 when Governor Adeleke assumed office.

It furthered that another failed contract worth around N300 million was awarded under the previous government. This was expected to link the State security communication centre with the Armoured Personnel Carriers.

However, the contract was not executed as the armoured vehicles were abandoned before the Adeleke administration refurbished them.

“We are not interested in what has happened in the past. Our goal is to acquire new drones and other needed equipment and materials for our formal and informal security networks to combat crimes and banditry in this state,” Governor Adeleke stated.
