A female child trafficking suspect arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confessed to receiving ₦250,000 for every child brought into the trafficking network.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, the suspect disclosed that she returned to the operation after a previous arrest and imprisonment over a case involving a missing child.

During questioning, she claimed a recruiter had misled her into believing the operation was a charitable initiative designed to provide shelter and education for children living on the streets. She reportedly identified a woman known as Madam Nkechi as a key figure who persuaded her to return to the network.

During questioning, she claimed a recruiter had misled her into believing the operation was a charitable initiative designed to provide shelter and education for children living on the streets.

Investigators also linked other suspects to recruiters allegedly operating around a church in Lugbe, Abuja.

Separate accounts from the investigation implicated suspects identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John in the alleged sale of children for as much as ₦1.5 million each to contacts, including a woman known as Madam Ijeoma in Port Harcourt.

The revelations come amid renewed efforts by the FCT Police Command to dismantle the suspected trafficking network.

The command, through its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, has reported the rescue of a four-year-old girl, Ummi Mariam Abdullah, in Kuje as part of its operations against the syndicate.

However, Police investigations are ongoing to establish the suspects’ alleged roles and identify others connected to the network.
